The Wait Is Over - But Not For Brexit!

Alexander "Sascha" Zverev has broken into the elite crop of tennis players, from the emerging Next Generation of stars. Like the rest of the tennis world, LineBall Tennis have been waiting anticipating the "nextgen" star to make his break-through, in the men's game. We categorically believe the wait is over.

"Sascha" is often shortend for Alexander in Russian, is still only age 21 and has made his emphatic emergence: by convincingly winning the end-of-year shoot-out of the year's top eight players at Nitto ATP Finals, in the O2 Arena in London. The emergence is clear from a number of standpoints, other than simply that he defeated the world number 3 and number 1 back-to-back in the semi-final and then the final, Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic respectively, in London.

Sascha on Sunday topped-off a progressive year winning the biggest career title to date, and the yougest to win the year-end finale. After that win, there is also the matter that he has finished the year ranking number four in the world for the second consecutive year. Another factor is Sascha's his top-echelon status was rubber-stamped by his idea to hire Ivan Lendl as his coach in August of this year. Another great hall mark of his bust-though emergence is the batch of nextgen players he left in his wake: Thiem, Tsitsipas, Fognini, Khachanov, Medvedev, Dimitrov, Dolgopolov, etc.

LineBall Tennis's principal tennis coach Krishna draws a comparison with a precocious 17-year old who also announced his arrival on the big-stage of tennis, by winning the most prestigious of tennis grand slam titles, Wimbledon. Of course Boris Becker, who is German, same as Sascha's birthplace and Hamburg-upbringing, though of Russian descendency; and a 6-time tennis grand slam champion made that first giant-leap. Some tennis pundits and experts have often debated about the attainment of maturity of players from various parts of the globe. Germans arguably mature faster given the other factors to producing a top national player. Krishna, like his personal idol Boris Becker (see picture below), is excited about Sascha as the future cynosure of tennis.

Andrew Castle, former British number one tennis player, and these days a TV and LBC-radio broascaster including  tennis commentry at Wimbledon and ATP Finals, also had some comparative insight. Andrew remarked to Krishna, while passing by the Clapham Common public tennis facility where LineBall Tennis operates, that similar to Boris, Sascha is "more arrogant". We all know Boris was "arrogant" or at least in his outward strut and ostentation; interpreted for tennis as confidant, self-assured and with strong mental fortitude. Andrew, having much speculated about "NextGen" players coming of age and a natural and much-anticipated changing of the guard, also remarked "we need the change" in men's top tennis.

Another remarkable aspect of the ATP Finals final versus Roger Federer was an incident where a point-in-play was interrupted at the request of Zverev, towards the crucial end of the second set, Zverev having one the first (oddly only one one match went to three sets the entire week-long finals). The incident resulted in booing and jeers by sections of the crowd at the O2 final. At courtside during winner's prize-giving conversation with commentator Annabel Croft, a former British women's number one player, crowd started prolonged booing. Zvevrev showed his humility by recognising and apologising for halting the play. He explained to the crowd that a ball-boy at the back had dropped the ball, and it had rolled on to the court with the ball-boy rushing onto court to retrieve it; which presumably distracted Zverev attention away from the ball, and subsequently he halted the point. Which is irrefutably in the ATP rules, as Annabel clearly politely asserted to the non-tennis fans in the crowd. Indeed TV-video evidence does show that to be the case.   Even during the enquiry to the circuit-umpire Carlos Ramos for the reason to halt-play, Federer asked the offending ball-boy. The ball-boy is seen nodding. Zverev as the winner was also seen apologising at the net to the vanquished Federer as they shook hands at the end of their match.

Holidays in Maldives was commented as the place of destination in the off-season that Sascha Zverev and friends embark to. He had done so in 2017 as well. LineBall Tennis wish him an enjoyable rest and recuperation, and thank the tennis Gods that the long-wait for a new star is finally over. Yet the wait for United Kingdom to leave the globalist-agenda of the European Union, known as'Brexit', is still prolonging its delivery since June 2016 vote by the British people to leave union of European countries. One doese not expect democracy to be more tenuous than finding a tennis star, as LineBall's activists Twitter comments attest (Picture below).

The King of Tennis Is Back (Only Temporarily!)

So Roger Federer became number one in the world again! Giving credence to our last featured blow - see picture below of LineBallTennis blog April last year:      

And up-to-date today, "The King" Federer has now beeen de-throned again. After losing in the Indian Wells Final to Martin Del Potro, the Argentinian "Gentle Giant", in one of the recent "Sunshine Double" in the U.S.A. In the other one in Miami, he lost first-round to an unknown player. Or just another "giveme" #couldnotbebothered matches from Federer. So ending his short reign at the top.

While that topsy-turvey world of professional world tennis continues in remarkable and commercial ways that it generates and spawns  interests, the truth of local matters for non-professional tennis players is the nutty nutty world of politics. Yes we must also have adult talking pieces, or do we still 'chat' about tribal ineffectual football matters - "small-talk"?

So it is that LineBallTennis - Clapham Common co-joins its activities in tennis coaching for one-and-all, with geo-political campaigning activistm (and merchandising exclusive brand tennis goods). LineBallTennis recently committed to the UK Labour Party cause in helping them till 01/12/2020 to get the man of the hour and "the ideals 4 now" elected (starting with 3rd May elections to over-turn a 40-years led local Tory Council - Wandsworth). As per the activists Tweets we distribute via LBT principal Krishna through @LineBallTennis. All "RTs and Follows" appreciated but never for propaganda purpose, only towards the truth in interpretation. (12-Apr-18 - KS).

So we write about "over-crowding in turnover-economies" in broader or global meaning, and then relate that to a local context - even possibly a tennis one, as per the blog!

For instance principals at LineBallTennis supported "Brexit". LBT supported "Leave" campaign due to over-crowding in numerous aspects of everyday life; as an instance, the London Underground's Northern Line, is filth of an old line with assortments connecting north and south of the Thames. As one of the earliest tube-lines it was not built to accommodate such commuter traffic. Yet regionalisation of the UK into Europe means UNLIMITED Europeans. Where in fact there have always been European moving to London to live work and make home, but not on the scale of movement or influx since the EU membership. This was not in the capacity considerations when the tube-lines were planned. Aboriginal UK citizens never bought-in to idea that you were a "racist" for abandoning the European Union project, particularly to find national identity and not be lost and crowded-out, in a forever and faster changing England. But that, "State of the Nation" demands more nationalism and socialism, and less globalist expansion by countries and companies - i.e. massive "commercial  and land grab", via Freedom of Movement (which Britain will test-case via triggering Aricle 50 to Brexit). As if the exit process is not as simple as saying to EU: "This is not your "Treasure Islands" mate "F*** O**!"

Of course that distinct European countries are heading towards a Federal States of Europe via EU, exactly like the mess of American states, other wise known as U.S.A; a diaspora populous all heralding from somewhere and nowhere! If we are that mixed and lost in identity already, so soon may that end.  Lets fix an abode and address, at least for the sake of addressing the elephant in the room, climate change, and the other irreversible damage to the environment as we know it by a few "stupid white men" - title of book by Michael Moore. Then think of the USA / America as an example of a migrant society and what federalism had done for it! Think of States such as Illinois, and ghetto cities such as Detroit. Is this the role model we want to follow in the 21st century, one which has been badly re-enacted from old bad Europe days of imperialism?

A gathering and grouping of anything is a "regionalisation", just as "nationalisation" remotely meant nation-wide railway and utilities networks. Language is dynamic and meanings associated to words change. "Nationalisation" more probably means business operating within the remit of the national government, as British Railways once was.
If you are still following the train-of-logic: the regionalisation of areas and powers of Europe into countries, while fighting over them, was pre-occupation in pre-War era. In principal, togetherness unity and love of differences and cooperation without wars is INDEED the ideal; but all it actually exploitatively and effectively means is Lidl Aldi Starbucks MacDonalds and other multi-national companies - MNCs. Commercial expansion is the much less publicized essence of the EU and other multilateral groupings and organisations. For instance Virgin Trains is partly owned by DeutscheBahn, which is the government owned German highways authority. The EU membership facilitated such sovereign-state cross-border deals.

LBT are not cynical or hesitant about ideals, but for when it is a mere facade of propaganda we are strongly "anti-globalist", in context of what it in fact means. UKIP, Le Pen, Trump and Gert Wilders etc are such figure-heads for dissent against status-quo establishment; anti-sentiment by populism not often aired or voiced in multi-cultural secular societies. For instance, "America First" as President Trump calls his campaign is "nationalism". In one respects it is supposed to mean "put American interests first" eg bring back jobs offshored in globalisation, including tax-haven tax-dollars / loot. Or in that double-speak of lexicon it maybe interpreted as "lets shut shop to Chinese expansion interests".

Whether we like it or not the sentiment of the voting public are grass roots of long-term trend reversals. Conservatives' and Margaret Thatcher's ideal of capitalism has run its course in entirety to "excessive capitalism", since 1977. To balance and bring equilibrium, Jeremy Corbyn's opposite doctrine of socialism is a certainly the order of the day; better than more of the same as practised by New Labour and the Tories themselves over last last 40 years to 2017. All this excess in capitalism is highlighted more so in cities, and especially in vogue cities like London with its great history and a magnet for businesses.

Part II

So from this "overcrowding of interests" in a global world "geopolitics" contextuality,  we get to a local interest Clapham Westside context. So Europeans  Antipodeans provincials northerners and others moving to London's fashionable "gateway to the south", Battersea and surrounding wards, Balham and Clapham, wish to send their children or themselves for local tennis courses. They the diaspora of Clapham come across a uppermost name in their search-engine. They then enquire and send their children or themselves to that particular tennis business not aware of local knowledge or other options. The popularity of that singular tennis-vendor inevitably results in stiflingly overcrowded tennis participants - a clue to that maybe 12 to 32 players on just 2 tennis courts! This can be off-putting to the enjoyment of tennis. What can an enthusiast do about it once they have paid in advance and subscribed for a set course of 6 or so group lessons? But unwittingly parents and those adult enthusiasts of tennis are then loyally committed to that business as point of attention for their local tennis interests. All started from a reflex reaction from a 5-minute internet search. This has been the case since late 1990s.

Do they know local tennis clubs and their membership details like Grafton, Wigmore, Telford, Spencer and Magdalene? They don't even know of Krishna as the local tennis coach, operating under the sole proprietor banner of LineBallTennis, who has been living and playing in the local clubs for over 40 years? Is this not a symptom of overcrowding of a locality that everyone is in blissful ignorance and not knowing their neighbour perhaps an don't even care?






 

A Sort of Older Order of Tennis Restored

One commentator on tennis has simply summized the change in tides
of the rivalry between Roger Federer and Rafael Nadal this year as
“Rafael Nadal is thinking. Roger Federer is playing.” More on that later.

LineBallTennis's principal tennis coach at Clapham Common Krishna, has written about the fortunes of Federer so much, that a serialization publishing and TV rights must be on its way to him! The last speculation and observation on Federer's fate from the “local tennis coach” was in July 2015. When Federer was in the final round at Wimbledon, against Djokovic and watched on Centre Court by LineBallTennis & friends, is entitled “Revolution By The Deposed King Federer”. Even after watching the sad defeat of the “King”, Krishna offered this on that blog:

"I do not believe it is fantasy wishful thinking that Federer can win another grand slam, especially on grass; or that he has just blown his last chance losing to Novak Djokovic in the final of Wimbledon. But moreover, that the chance and opportunity may prevail again". Krishna, 22-July-2015

We told you so! Returning to the now and after April Fool's Day, the incredulous reversal in competitive fortunes between the older protagonists of international tennis, which this coach at LineBallTennis of Clapham Common well understands from experience of tennis-playing adversaries, is worthy of exposition here. A story of surprise which has seen Federer “the deposed King” clawing-back to number four in the men's world ranking (behind leading troupe of Andrew Murray, Novak Djokovic and Stan Warwinka). 

"Roger" had initially been at similar world ranking on his way to his first visit to the summit of world tennis in 2002. Federer is only half the story in this "Older Order" restoration story. Following injuries, Nadal has also climbed back to number five in the world, after their latest and recent finals encounter at the Miami ATP Masters, yesterday Sunday on 2nd April 2017. This report follows the west coast USA hard court season peak  dubbed "Sunshine Double", the Indian Wells and Miami Open ATP Masters.

In the space of three months, a sort of older order has been restored to the world of men's tennis, in that of Federer and Nadal are competing in the finals of tournaments, both big and small and back-to-back. That last happened with regularity between 2007-2010 (see their head-to-head table below). Since then to end-2016 they have rarely both met in tournament finals. Only thrice in the final round of French Open 2011, Rome Masters 2013 and Basel 2015. In that six year period the domination of men's tennis has mostly been Djokovic; interspersed with Murray and Warwinka et al winning. 

Throughout 2016 there was a changing of guards in the top flight of mens tennis. A year which incredibly saw our own British Murray become world number one; taking the spot from long-reigning new King of tennis from Serbia, Djokovic.

The Old King Is Alive!

LineBallTennis said “a sort of older order has been restored” because prior to the three months of this year February to April 2nd, Federer had only defeated Nadal in the final of Basel 2015. Their last encounter. And before that, in a semi-final in 2012 at the Indian Wells Masters. A win Over Nadal which Federer repeated last month in March. So in their eight head-to-head matches since 2012 Federer had only won 2 of them coming into this year. A situation of scant joy against a what we local Clapham Common tennis players and fans of LineBallTennis discuss, as Federer's “ultimate nemesis and foe”. And as if to underlie that head-to-head contest, which saw the Spaniard dominate the one who we worshipfully refer to as “The King Of Tennis”, the statistics are 23-14 in favour of Nadal. More telling is their head-to-head in grand slam encounters, in which Nadal is winning 9-3 and only 4 grand slams less than Federer's total haul of 18, including this year's Australian title.

For Federer, defeating Nadal three times consequentially is an exceptional novelty feat, from studying their head-to-head statistics. In fact it is four consecutive wins in their personal battle, as Federer conquered Nadal last in 2015 at Basel, their previous meeting. Add to that that the feat was completed in the space of three months of this year between February to April 2017, including a grand slam win in the final of the Australian Open – Federer's 18th Grand Slam; and then striking-down his nemesis to win the ‘Sunshine Double’ (Indian Wells and Miami) titles, what a rejuvenation in fortunes indeed. Their contest for kings of tennis began from 2004, oddly enough at the Miami Masters round of 32, Nadal won that first encounter 13 years ago – unlucky number for some and lucky for others.

So what has brought about this surprising “novelty feat” from the older establishment of tennis. Aside of the marginal court surface preference, i.e., 10-9 on hard and 2-1 on grass to Federer, while an overwhelming 13-2 on clay for Nadal, we think it is a purely psychological change in the contenders. As also observed by Steve Tignore @tennis or tennis.com here: With Federer’s win over Nadal in Miami, a rivalry changes dramatically. There are also tactical changes that have been observed by other tennis analysts, but we don't believe these are unknown factors or revelations between giant gladiators who have met in 33 competitive matches. For example, Federer slice-serving wide to the left-handed Nadal into the deuce court, gains some clear advantage in the point.

To understand our opening statement, “Rafael Nadal is thinking. Roger Federer is playing”, is like knowing the difference and relationship between the power of "action versus words", or “vita contemplativa” or “vita activa”. Federer no longer has a crisis of confidence when he faces his arch rival Nadal. So he does not lose the game-turning points being on the defensive, or on the desperation to be offensive.

Nadal's "Bull" Vitalism

Equally contributory to Federer's success is that Nadal, who is 5 years Federer's junior at age 30, is now thinking more or conscience of the ebb-and-flow of the match, and perhaps feeling nerves after the exhuberance of youth and the formidable winning-streaks have both deserted him; in his bold youth he played by mechanically doing with absolute paramount belief; as a younger bulls tends to rage more fiercely than an older one. As when we all produce our best standards of tennis play – some describe this feeling as "being in the zone" - playing without thinking, pure intuition and guts, seiing the ball as big and early as a balloon .

Nadal's invincible will-to-win, whether against Federer or otherwise, has diminished – only slightly - since his return from injuries. As once happened to Federer's polished King status with the arrival of the Spanish bull Nadal - the Moriarty to Sherlock! Nadal would also inevitably have had the 3 successive defeats in their last encounters since 2015 in the back of his mind, so thinking and trying different tactical variations in this fourth encounter in Miami. For example, Nadal's unique revolutions-per-second devastating forehand was not so much in evidence, as observed here by www.ATPWorldTour.com

Finally, three further related points of note to this LineBallTennis tennis blog:

a) Warm congratulations to Australian-born Johanna Konta for becoming the first British-representation of any note to win a women's tennis title. She won the Miami Open women's title conquering Caroline Wozniacki in straight sets. This achievement has been compared to British women's tennis success of some nearly 40 year's ago, when Virginia Wade won Wimbledon in 1977; when the “Sex Pistols” and “punks” were roaming London!

b) The rest of the year's nine months predictions could envisage recently deposed world no.1 Djokovic not floor the pedal of his Ferrari brand in terms of tennis ambition to regain pole position. He sacked LineballTennis Krishna's idol Boris Becker as coach in November – there is more to life than tennis! We wonder if Murray will hold on to the very unique and long unacquainted British position of being at the summit of world tennis – it's lonely at the top (and after Brexit!). We expect, both the FAMILIAR AND RISING tennis players that Federer beat in his last 10 matches (see below table), including “Bad-Ass-Aussie” Nick Kyrgios, to be making shocks and possibly waves. Add to this mix Fabio Fognini of Italy.




Mostly, LineBallTennis being a joggle of social and environmental activism in passion with tennis pleasure (see our Tweets @LineBallTennis), seeks good bookmaker betting odds in restoration of King of tennis Federer, once again take his throne in the realm of world tennis.

c) Roger Federer's incredible statistics was that up until this 4-match head-to-head winning streak against Nadal, he HAD NOT EVEN a hat-trick of back-to-back wins against his bogey-man arch rival. A rivalry begun as noted before, in the Miami Open of 2004. Astonishingly his 20 out of 21 matches this year 2017 has seen him defeated by world No. 81-ranked Evgeny Donskoy. The smart money would take odds on Federer finishing the current year as world No.1.

The Beauty and The Beast:

Sharpova Is The Beast! Igor Dimitrov, the would be king, aka “Baby Federer”, is the “beauty” in this story (http://www.express.co.uk/sport/tennis/650727/Maria-Sharapova-Tennis-player-Meldonium-Drug-test-Positive-Banned-WADA). It is a made-up story, based on the private and public msm reputation of these darlings of tennis. A story which is both dark and yet full of bright sensation and scandal! She was seduced by the dark side of sport - this picture shows her "Beast":

She, a sexy symbol of womens' world tennis, had been drug-tested and then later she herself volunteered to reveal that she was tested-positive as yet another drug-cheat in sport - namely Maria S. A boring cheat story in sport politic etc, this time encompassed in a puritan playboy world of tennis. Among other corruption revelations in sport rigging and gambling. Another story  or famous incident is that of Lance Armstrong in cycling with a film made about it – "The Program". A public release of which is in legal-wrangle stages or just withheld vor whatever reasons!

Who is Sharpova’s media manger or management group – because she and the sport, at first glance, seem to have come out of the wash clean. Congratulations and commiseration to them all! Their role in altering the truth into a public-perceived story with only a few knowing the secret, entitles these protagonists a ®NSWF:Reputation Degree (i.e. “NoSmokeWithoutFire: Of Reputation”). Watch This Space.

Back to the story: He “The Beauty” Dimitrov apparently dumped “Sharapova” before the doping ban – they were reportedly romantic lovers on the tennis circuit! The Michael Jackson and Priscila Presley of their day, perhaps (Posh and Beckham were not comparative in sport, as they both are still alive and reportedly happy – but they are similarly media-PR-constructs or “match-mad-in-heaven”).

Their ages respectively is... is blah blah! 

But this is a cyberworld where our constructs are more accessible than mainstream media version of stories ("Think Global Act Local"); so here's our  fanciful friend of tennisland @dhantuchova a.k.a. Revolution By The Deposed King Federer

At The A.E.L.T.C Championships in Wimbledon SW19 on 12th July 2015, Krishna the local tennis coach at Clapham Common municipal courts, witnessed a quiet determined revolution by the seemingly deposed King of Men's Tennis.

Roger Federer, the undisputed Grand Slam champion, with 17 career titles, not only in perspective demolished our very own British Andy Murray (7-5 7-5 6-4) in the semi-final round of The Championships, but in LineBallTennis - LBT principal Krishna's opinion, signalled that 'the old dog' still has life in him (given fortuitous circumstances of grand slam draws, surface, and player seeding etcetra). Remember that Federer is still number two in the official ATP World Tour ranking, indeed if any substantiation to his longevity at the very top of men's tennis is needed. This change of heart observation of Federer's grand slam winning chances follows on the heels of LineBallTennis pronouncement in September 2014 that "The King Is Dead: The New Guard!", after disgust at his capitulation in the 2014 U.S. Open.

The analysis behind why LineBallTennis principal believes 'King Roger' still has a winning chance at the Grand Slams are manifold. Krishna has revised his opinion and stated:

"I do not believe it is fantasy wishful thinking that Federer can win another grand slam, especially on grass; or that he has just blown his last chance losing to Novak Djokovich in the final of Wimbledon. But moreover, that the chance and opportunity may prevail again".

The perhaps fleeting chance to beat Novak "Nole" was excitedly anticipated by Krishna, who had triumphantly won Wimbledon ballot tickets to see the final day's matches on the Sunday at SW19. By the ambience on Centre Court, the expectation or support for Federer to go all the way was applauded by most of that exclusive tennis crowd. The crowds' urging and willing of Federer to battle was clearly one-sided. Only out of British cordial politeness did the crowd seem to applaud Djokvich's rally victories. Krishna had teasingly mentioned to his Finals Day companion that he would like to put etiquette aside and really be partisan in supporting Federer: by booing Novak's immaculate withstanding of the 'FedEx' barrage.

Technically, Federer was attacking and playing as aggressive game as ever, and as fans may not have witnessed in recent years. In other words, playing his best tennis and rightly taking his game to Novak. Novak became the tireless scampering, acrobatic retrieving and unnervingly fearless counter-puncher. Federer seemed to inevitably to hit the net or the excruciating tape from his aggressive flat low drives, in the set-winning rallies, bar one. For Federer, this Wimbledon tone was different from the word go: only hardy battle-tank Australian Sam Groth (6-4 6-4 5-7 6-2) had taken a set off Federer before the final match. Similarly the route to the final for Mr Djokovich was somewhat straightforward; yet in the quarter-final Kevin Anderson gave Novak a humbling shock he will not forget in a hurry. A second day carried-on match with a one set shoot out, especially with a giant big-server on peak performance, should have finally undone Novak's progress in The Championship (6-7 6-7 6-1 6-4 7-5); if not earlier after the South African lead the world number one and reigning king 2-0 in sets on the prior day. Mr Anderson will not be getting a Christmas card or crate of champagne from the Federer camp this year, in Krishna's jovial opinion!

 To humbly acknowledge Novak Djokovich as reigning King is deserved valour and just: with 9 singles grand slam titles it is petty and witless to call Djokovich a 'pretender' to the crown! And especially with the other established protagonist to the crown, Rafael Nadal stuttering with injuries and regaining his monstrous self-belief. The margin of victory between Novak and Roger's matches are mostly a fine line, as testified by a unique 20-20 head-to-head count in all matches, as shown on this up to date July'15 Wikipedia page about their special rivalry. Dustin’s win is a coup d’état of gargantuan proportions, not mere revolution. Also, didn’t the win draw some parallels with another German who thirty years ago at Wimbledon, as a shy brash 17 year old, upset the tennis establishment with his incredulous never-to-be-repeated Wimbledon Mens Final victory. > The residents using Clapham Common tennis-courts are facing a grave injustice. The Lambeth council-owned tennis courts have been taken over by a big business operator, Julian Cousins, and his team of tennis coaches. These coaches are using the courts for commercial purposes, leaving very few courts available for public use. This commercial exploitation is costing local residents their access to the municipal facility and is a clear violation of the public's right to access and use the courts. The only other option available is to book with Krishna Siva, a.k.a. LineBall Tennis, who is the local rival to the commercial exploitation of the courts. It is high time that the council takes action to ensure public access to the courts and put an end to this injustice. [KS OAICGPt 06-Mar-23]

 

> LineBall Tennis - Clapham Common are recruiting additional local adult tennis players for Tues. and Weds. adult group tennis from 8pm - what are you waiting for? The allegation was made to the Lawn Tennis Association, the authority overseeing tennis in th UK, by LBT rival tennis-coach Julian Cousins at Clapham Common. This "pathetic"* ex-policeman tennis-coach amassed his recruited tennis coaches to make the tenuos arbitrary complaint, but they declined to forward their names, except the mentioned ring-leader. Krishna NOW RECOGNISES this reporting of him to LTA safeguarding, as simply the latest in long litany of subtle bullying.

 

Mr Cousin's has been subtle conniving and undermining as a bully.  Perpetuating his abuse of tennis-coaching new-kid-on-the-block Krishna, via rumouring malicious untruths among his tennis-coaching minions, reprimands via Councils and unaknowledged commercial takeover of the local municipal tennis-facility to the detriment of new-entrants not on his books. Which the local council Lambeth and its then on-site facility manager  have overlooked despite Krishna fighting for a "level-playing-field" with here-today-gone-tomorrow Council officials. This persistent on-going abuse at the hands of the Julian Cousins et al, since switching from investment management / banking employment to tennis coaching in 2008. Yet, Krishna did not complain to authorities up to this point except on points of order in tennis-facility management. As he naively believed the affair as competing rivalry / turf-war for coaching patch. 

 

More will be outlined on  this subtle bullying tactics and takeover of Council facility in full expose to be published in this website and further. *LBT principal quoted a patron supporter describing ex-policemen Cousin's as pathetic. > NEW INFLATION BUSTING PRICES: Lineball Tennis have had to raise prices again for its tennis-coaching services since September 2022 (see new price at foot of page). Finally updated, 17-Oct-22.

 

The Lambeth Council managed public tennis-courts in Clapham Common Westside is since Summer 2022 available for hire at £10 per hour for public and September for tennis-coaches too. Background: earlier in the year, the Council scrapped the junior rate of court-hire at £4.35 and adult-hire for £8.65 and replaced with a single-fee hire at £6.50 - we were neutral to the mid-price; then shockingly, some months later the court-hire fee was raised to £10 for the public (manifesting the cost of living crisis!)

Intense / heavy tennis-court users deserving of economies of scale pricing

Effective September this month the rate applies to tennis-coach block-book of courts, which LineBall's principal-pro Krishna has objected to Council management; as intense / heavy tennis-court users deserving of economies of scale pricing, in the least - see pic. And also we have complained about onerous terms of court-booking e.g. licensed coaches have to give 24-hours notice to cancel block-booked courts, even for weather discrepancies. 

 

Pre-pandemic when staff  was employed at site coaches could cancel via phone or in-person with two-hours notice. Strangely the public can still cancel online with 2-hours notice. Watch this space for Council's reply LineBall is awaiting. (ks-21-Sept-22

> After decade-long price freeze for junior tennis at Clapham Common Lineball Tennis have set new prices. Including a NEW £25 an hour under-6 years-old fee for an hour one to one private lesson. All juniors above 6 yearls-old and above will pay £30 for individual lesson (increased from £25), and £37 for group lesson upto 4-players. This is effective from 1st July 2021 for new players starting with Lineball Tennis.

> LineBall Tennis are now planning Strictly Come Juniors Tennis Camp - Summer 2020 (under Covid19 restrictions!). The UK's governing body for Tennis is the Lawn Tennis Association - LTA. They have issued a statement, which can be read fully on their website:
"Players from different households can now play doubles together as long as they stay two metres apart as far as possible, and small group coaching for up to six people (including coaches) can resume.".
So Krishna, principal tennis coach, is organising by invitation small groups of five other players at a time to attend on-court and off-court holiday tennis camp. This "small group" is not so unusual for Krishna to adapt as he always believed and preached smaller groups to benefit teaching and learning principles in tennis. Especially in comparison to the over-crowded multi-sport camp run by rival coaches.

> Impending Retirement of Andy Murray
Yesterday (11-Jan-2019) British tennis and world tennis learnt the destiny of Sir Andrew Murray OBE, from his own words: he is to retire from tennis this year. LineBall Tennis did not investigate or research the severity of his hip injury that forced out of tennis last January. However, principal coach Krishna did hear from Andrew Castle, former British number one tennis player, that Murray's return to tennis was doubtful. Thanks for the inside-track Mr Castle. LineBall Tennis operating out of Clapham Common with principal tennis coach Krishna have had a period off from tennis coaching, due to court-resurfacing. The municipal court facilities re-opened a day after the ATP Finals final on 19th November  (read LineBall's blog above about the final, here too: The Wait Is Over - But Not For Brexit!). The courts had been shut since 1st October. But as yet the works are not completed as courts have not been painted, only the court-lines on black bitumen / road-type surface.

LBT's principal tennis coach Krishna has also complained directly to Lambeth Council, which oversees how the outsourced municipal facility is run. Percieving me as lone disgruntled voice they have not heard or heeded the complaints. > The background  to the over-crowding at Clapham Common tennis courts is a single coach who hires additional external tennis coaches to run a tennis coaching business (when there are sufficent local LTA clubs set-up for that specific purpose). These coaches then get licensed by Lambeth and both contract for this coach or independently.

> LineBallTennis of Clapham Common take this freak wintry snow blizzard weekend, to update our local tennis news. The freak weather has been headlined as euphemistically as "Mini Beast From The East". Dubbed "Mini" this time because we had a week long of this Siberian tundra weather pattern in the first week of March; due to irregular rotation of the jet-stream above Scandinavia which gathered the weather-front from Siberian tundra. The dumbing-down mainstream media called it the "The Beast From The East", instead of what it really is "CLIMATE CHANGE".

> Those chance visitors to our LBT webpages will know that the principal tennis coach Krishna is an activist these days (The Weatherman Underground) - a far cry from his trading floor investment broking and management  past! And that he propounds the not-too-difficult-to-comprehend and evidence-based ecological science that man-made climate-change is probable and actual. So we like to believe that President Donald Trump is not naive to the #climatechange science but his methods are designed  to circumvent widespread economic panic. The only requisite other than your presence is to notify me "Krishna" in advance of your attendance. This adult scheme follows the somewhat successful Junior Tennis Drop-In earlier in the evening - which re-starts in the Spring.

  > Autumn Camp - 23rd-27th Oct. LineBallTennis - Clapham Common got our junior tennis camp underway, or at least for the morning session 10-12.30 pm. In the afternoon session the juniors unanimously voted to play football! There were only two juniors (as pictured below) in attendance and local tennis coach Krishna; slow start indeed. LBT's motto in such "bums-on-seats" moments is "Not the quantity, its the quality st**id". > LineBallTennis Is More Than Tennis Cool! - Third week into school summer holidays, and midweek Wednesday 9th August, is again wet - all day! After cancelling and refunding his juniors of his Summer Tennis Camp, LineBallTennis - Clapham Common local coach Krishna, asked a sympathetic passer-by if it is just a wet "British summer" or is it "climate change" as well. The answer was "both".
Krishna is believer in man-made thermal pollution WILL change climate and environment. As if to prove it, he came across this book "Heat" by Arthur Herzog, one of the earliest fiction on climate-change in disaster scenario. Is it fiction?

> Its Not About The Quantity Its The Quality, Stupid! That was the way of things for the end-May half-tem camp that LineBallTennis - Clapham organised impromptu. We, or just Krishna the LBT principal, had just three junior players as camp starters between Wednesday and Friday from 10-1pm - regular star, Kaia, and brother and sister duo Oliver and Ava. While another "overcrowded" camp with 30+ toddlers and mixed-ages were alternating on two courts and green space behind court.

The full camp course attendant Kaia (shown above), aged 9, said she really got a lot out of the focused pro's attention (Semi-western forehand, serving from scratch-back position and devising a circuit).
New comers Oliver and Ava, could only stay the first hour of three. They'd arranged swimming for afterwards, not knowing about junior half-term camp - which was little publicized and impromptu. 

Oliver who stayed behind from attending swimming on last day of camp, due to an ear infection, has started a rivalry with Kaia. The younger Kaia overcame stronger Oliver 3-1 in games, with latter talking of "pressure", but coolly handling "McEnroesque" outburst of former. Epic encounter with long rallies on a near-full court!

On the Thursday 1st June, Krishna spotted and stopped Andrew Castle for a selfie for this web-page, and chat reminder about "quality not quantity" of tennis. Andrew is a former British number one tennis pro who is remembered by LBT for a great match with Boris Becker, and a current commentator on TV and radio, especially sensational LBC radio. > From the last Winter post of Local Tennis News, website visitors and weekend players at Clapham Common may know Paul. He and Krishna started developing a backhand drive and general training and practice in tennis, in the search for the Holy Grail of Backhands. He was noted in the end-of-year  post as the most-improved adult tennis player of 2015. In early April while playing on artificial hard-court surface at Wigmore LTC he turned his ankle. Later he found he had fractured his ankle in two places, and consequently has been able train with LBT on sunday mornings. Paul's afternoon weekend playing partner Maurice is looking for stand-in players, and Krishna is matching time-convenience and playing-standards to make arrangements. > Following on from news about Paul, as LBT's Most Improved Adult Player of 2015, LBT wish to give a shout-out for birthdays in May and June for its players. An end of year mention for Krishna's most-improved adult tennis player of 2015: Paul (as pictured above with Krishna), was at the last tennis lesson of 2015 on 20th December. He and Krishna have been working particularly on improving the back-hand; when LBT's Krishna first trained him, Paul was reverting to only a back-hand slice, or more aptly a chopped block. With inveterate habit Paul still deploys his trusted back-hand option, but has in his tennis-strokes artillery a strong backhand drive, with top spin too. The search for The Holy Grail Of Backhand (for Paul, Stan Wawrinka is role-model), including re-progamming natural instincts continues unabated at #Clapham Common public tennis courts. (ks 22Dec15)

> Another long duck broken by Andrew Murray in winning the international team tennis competition known as The Davis Cup. Team Great Britain represented by Andrew Murray won the final rubber matches on 29 November 2015 to win the title, last won by the country 79 years ago. Congratulations - As if it ever was in doubt after reaching the final! Instead of watching the final day LineBallTennis' coach Krishna protested at #GlobalClimateMatch in London. (ks 29Nov'15)

> The grandeur of the O2 Barclays ATP Tour Finals and local tennis matters at hand in this update: Tennis junior Ben age 6 from Germany and his father Nico demonstrate  LineBallTennis's favourite photo opportunity of "pyramid balls" (see pictures below). The related local nuance news is that Krishna with Sub-Continental heritage discovered the joys of yoga from a German neighbour and yoya instructor friend Sybille (check her yoga service out www.sybille.co.uk); and now the link which inspired Krishna to play tennis, Boris Becker in 1985-86 at Wimbledon, is teaching junior Ben from Boom Boom Boris's country : great karmic relationship and responsibility told! > LineBallTennis - LBT visited Barclays ATP World Tour Finals at the O2, London between November 15-22, 2015. On the first occasion (3rd day Tuesday evening session) LineBallTennis coach Krishna was taken by his client and local neighbour Albin. We were treated to lavish Barclays Lounge - Level 1 hospitality with great view of the players on the court. The spectacle we witnessed confirmed LBT's latest opinion on the former King of Tennis Roger Federer (See here Revolution By The Deposed King Federer):

Indeed Mr Federer defeated Novak Djokovich in straight sets 7-5 6-2 in rather dominant fashion. Not only was Roger aggressively taking the game to Novak, but what was different from recent matches between the two players, was that the former was making the winners, hitting the lines, getting the net-tape luck and predominantly stronger on backhand with fewer mis-hits. Federer was relaxed but determined at the crucial stages. LBT believe his  "wait-and-see" attitude combined with poor luck at pivotal points in their Grand Slam Finals' matches at Wimbledon and US Open earlier this year  was why the deposed king of tennis revolution is STILL only in the making! > Barclays ATP World Tour Finals - Continued: 
Krishna found less lavish hospitality, but nonetheless enjoyed a second consecutive visit on the 4th day Wednesday evening session at the O2 Arena. The end of season tennis finale lived up to its name, as a jittery doubles contest featuring Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo versus Jean-Julien Rojer and Horia Tecau (eventual semi-finalist & Championship doubles winners) was followed by David Ferrer versus Stan Wawrinka. The latter being bigger badder player slogged through fighting fierce "El Torro" Ferrer 7-5 6-2. 
After the the doubles session Krishna was wandering around the entrance blocks of the O2 Arena stadium, and spotted one-half of a legendary doubles duo (see below pictures). This legend, commenting on my suggestion of a let-down performance by Ivan Dodig's partner Marcelo Melo, Peter Fleming coolly replied "These things happen!".(ks 24Nov'15)

 >Prior to The Championship fortnight in SW19, LineBallTennis and local resident and Member of Grafton LTC  Greg visited Wimbledon Qualifiers in Roehampton. LBT's Krishna went 3 out of the 4 days to see the next tier of men and women tennis players i.e. those junior and adults unable to get automatic entry into the main Wimbledon draws. The lure of the well-kept-secret tournament aside, over the years of being a tennis groupie, Krishna identified and introduced himself to quality fringe tennis players: Dustin Brown (of Germany who recently beat Rafael Nadal at Wimbledon 2015), Ram Rajeev (of USA, age 3, defeated tall-standing 185h ranked John Isner in this year's grass court season at Newports, USA's ATP Hall of Fame Championships) Karolina Pliskova and twin sister Krystina Pliskova. Below are some faces and names that maybe more familiar to some tennis players.

> Rip-off Britain:  Rogue exploitative tennis coaching practices have been and are abound in Clapham Common public tennis courts, even nowadays under the auspices of Lambeth Council's Lambeth Tennis Network - LTN.  To local residents new and old,  and novitiate tennis players. LBT's long-standing local resident and tennis coach Krishna has a vested interest in promoting good practice (players per court, coaches per players & price per player etc), as advocated by UK tennis body Lawn Tennis Association - LTA, at least at its administered affiliate clubs. This is NOT an attack on any particular coach but a local public information service, and self-vested promotion of LBT tennis services.

Q. When does a novice tennis enthusiast not know what is good value tennis coaching?   A. When they do not know that group-coaching of 6 players per court was £2 per session, which lasted one-and-half hour.

This information service seems pertinent as below picture depicts what LineBallTennis Krishna saw with one coach between two courts and over 12 players (on 22-July-15 at 7.45pm) at Clapham Common public tennis courts. Talk about fair class size, and state of British tennis is at stake.

> Summer is just round the corner, officially Summer Equinox on June 21^st. For LineBallTennis – LBT, our tennis service has been continuous at local Clapham Common public tennis courts. On 1^st of May 2015, Friday we started our inaugural weekly Junior Drop-In Friday at 6pm. While inauguration was a Bank Holiday weekend and attendance low, LBT did host long-time local family, and their friend. Brother aged 11 and sister aged 7, Harrison and Kaia (respectively in left frame picture, they are middle and right), with Leon from Tooting doing the guitarist / rocker smirk. The Junior Drop-In Friday was also mentioned previously on www.facebook/lineballtennis. The following day Saturday, for usual “monkeying around” and serious tennis drills, following their football practice, Max and Tom (in right frame picture, middle and right respectively) and their friend  "Billy of Bonneville" (far left on left pic).

 > Local Badminton Road resident and experienced junior tennis player Dylan aged 13, whom we mentioned in earlier blog - see here, narrowly missed out on being selected for ball-boy privileges at this year’s Wimbledon Championships in the summer. As protégé and friend of LineBallTennis we were disappointed we could not help further his trials / application. Yet we were more than encouraged with Dylan’s philosophical responsive attitude: “I’ll try again next year!”. LBT will aid and follow progress.

This annual event is a little known pre-Wimbledon tennis tournament that happens locally near Roehampton. > Also, LineBallTennis – LBT is boastful of having tickets and going to The Wimbledon Championship Men’s Final Day at local SW19. Of course I am not playing there then; though I’m going on the day, along with parent Andrew, and LBT-coached star Jack, who may still have a chance to play final’s day on the haloed turf of the Centre Court. Below is the official poster The Championships 2015 designed by Russian paper artis Yulai Brodskaya. At the heart of the design is the one week later start date of The Championships.  > And finally, a mention in LBT’s Local Tennis News for the 17^th May, Nepal Benefit Fund-Raiser event organized by much-liked Sunil. He is normally serving in the court booking huts, and increasingly playing tennis at Clapham Common courts. Sunil, who is descended from Nepal, organized a lively event with 5-piece band, raising money for the recent tragic earthquake that hit that country. And I am sure for the famed courage of the Gurkhas, some local regulars at the public tennis courts turned-up to play social doubles tennis and sample Nepalese buffet cuisine. For those who are not familiar with the geography: the highest mountain in the world, the Himalayas are nearby, with many Nepalese having lost their lives acting as mountain-guides “Sherpas” to the venturing mountineers. > LineBallTennis have NOT been in winter hibernation! We have been on the Clapham Common tennis courts in damp dreary cold weather, and also in glorious foretaste of Spring sunshine too. Thank you to the hard-core tennis practicing players for keeping LBT busy especially during weekends in the quiet seasonal period. You know who you are without the star name mentions - LBT gratitude.

> After the recent mid-term school break the children are restarting their tennis with us. Here we give a special mention to the third member of the "Three Musketeers" Behruz. He is shown in the picture below performing a balancing-act to collect tennis balls on his racquet during 1st of March Sunday squad drills. Behruz's is 7 years of age and joins his fellow musketeers, Hippolyte and Cyprien in LBT's Local Tennis News (see Local Tennis News - Archive) for his fuming outrage  for Hippolyte having knocked the balls off his racquet earlier in the lesson. In the picture below, after his tantrum remonstrations, Behruz displays himself calm collected yet with telling mischievous smile. Behruz has also enhanced the "know-your-tennis-court" game by suggesting we not only race to the named place on the tennis court, but HOW we get there e.g. "By sidestepping etc, the first one to the net!"

> Mid-Oct'14: In case you have NOT noticed the launch of Dame Vivienne Westwood's semi-autobiography in the last month (pictures below). LineBallTennis's principal Krishna has known Dame Vivienne's family since he descended on these  shores in 1977, the year of the Queens Silver Jubilee. LBT recommend the biography for local rock and fashion flavour of an era that went 'viral', having originated very near the Clapham Common Bowling Green Tennis Courts.

This is NOT merely a 'plug' for a good read or LBT's connection to a local fashion leader and Climate Revolution activist, the other newsworthiness to local tennis is that, LineBallTennis coached Andreas. He is the fashion designer 'hubby' of Dame Vivienne. Early communication suggests Andreas is to resume LBT tennis lessons - having recovered from his shoulder injury. Achtung!

> Clapham local residents and LBT junior stars Hippolyte and Cyprien of Bellville Primary School (the latter having moved schools recently), show-off creativity in the field of tennis ball pyramid in the picture below. Such charismatic junior reinforce LBT's moto "Tennis is Our Pleasure!". LBT principal Krishna is looking forward to resuming tennis training with them after they return from half-term break.

> Local resident and experienced junior tennis player Dylan aged 13, is having trials this week at his school for appearance as ball boy at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in 2015.  The preliminary stage trials to select ball boys / girls for June / July 2015 at SW19 is taking place at participating schools for Year 9 - 11 class age groups. LineBallTennis - Clapham wish Dylan well, and will support and follow his progress. Other parents wishing to have chance for their youngster to participate  in the greatest tennis tournament in the world should enquire with Lawn Tennis Association and the All England Lawn Tennis Club.

> From the kind parents and deeds of the parents of LBT's junior tennis client Cyprien, to publish LineBallTennis at Belleville Primary School, we now have new adult tennis client Gemma, who is school governor there. LBT consider this an additional endorsement to the numerous working professionals who have taken the plunge to learn tennis with LBT founder Krishna K. Siva.

> I was standing outside Clapham South tube this morning 24-Sept 8.15am, handing out Season 2014/15 LineBallTennis cards when yet another person commented on tennis coach Julian Cousin’s bad ATTITUDE! An adult lady mentioned that he was “…quite curt…” when she was making enquiries with him...

 I convey this not only as a competing coach at Clapham Common tennis courts and that I had taken a natural dislike to his Jekyl & Hyde personality; but relevantly to state that this outpouring about Mr Cousins’ erratic behaviour is one in a string of vitriolic criticisms proffered to me.

 If anyone has other historic or current complaints please direct them to me and I shall see Lambeth Tennis Network is made aware. Perhaps my last blog augurs a meaning closer to home about “King Is Dead: The New Guard!”. ☻ Regards, Krishna 24-Sept-2014
